Young’s (part of the Findus Group) has been supplying fish and seafood for over 200 years, developing practical and positive steps to sustainability through its Fish for Life programme, which was formally launched in 2006. Now that Young’s is part of the Findus Group, Fish for Life also been adopted for the Group’s Findus brands across Europe.
Fish for Life is our own policy and governs all the species we buy, whether wild-caught or farmed. Every purchasing decision is made with a clear understanding of the capacity of the environment to support the fishing or fish farming effort involved. We are also aligned to the objectives of the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) which relate to wild caught fish.
The Fish for Life approach is founded on Ten Principles for Responsible Fish Procurement. – the rules which govern all our sourcing decisions. Our products clearly show the Fish for Life logo to help consumers choose sustainable fish – it’s our guarantee that fish has been sourced according to these rigorous criteria.
Fish for Life supports independent sustainability certification schemes such as the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) and the developing equivalent for farmed fish, the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC). As well as this, Fish for Life also represents and reflects a broader commitment by Young’s and Findus – to do everything we can to support fish sustainability such as by funding research, engaging with industry and lobbying governments to implement better legislation.
